Peter Šemrl is a distinguished mathematician,
who works in functional analysis and linear algebra.
He has achieved fundamental results in the field of preserver problems,
an area on the border of functional analysis, operator theory and linear algebra.
His results on Kaplansky's conjecture, commutativity preserving maps,
the geometry of matrices, and on local automorphisms and
order isomorphisms in operator algebras have proved especially important
for the development of this research area.
Since 1995 he has published five high impact papers
in Acta Scientiarum Mathematicarum
including his most cited paper on commutativity preserving maps.
The Medal was presented to Peter Šemrl
at 10:30, november 23, 2018
in the Bolyai Institute.
On this occasion he delivered a lecture
``Löwner order on selfadjoint matrices and operators".
